British boxer Anthony Joshua Released from Medical Facility in Lagos Following Fatal Road Accident
Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, Nigerian authorities announced on Wednesday evening. The fighter was involved in a car accident near Lagos on the 29th of December, a horrific crash that claimed the lives of two of his valued colleagues.
Under Observation for Minor Injuries
Joshua had been receiving medical attention while recovering from minor injuries, his management team stated earlier on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post online that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.
“The boxer and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the commissioner stated.
Honoring the Deceased
The victims of the crash were named as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. The official further stated that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the loss of his two trusted companions.”
The news of his discharge follows the sports world had expressed sympathy for the champion in the aftermath of the heartbreaking incident.
