Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
