'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Loved Ones of Unaccounted For Teens Await Answers After Alpine Inferno
The families of young people lost after a devastating blaze at a bar in a Swiss winter destination are confronting an painful wait for answers and pleading for clues about their loved ones online.
The fire engulfed the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Confirmed footage reveal the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Officials have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the those who perished of the disaster, which killed numerous partygoers and hurt another over a hundred. Authorities stated on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with work continuing to identify the other six.
In the interim, loved ones have been posting on the internet to plead for information about their missing relatives who were at the bar that night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but could not find him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she said.
She explained that some of his friends had been found with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's government has confirmed that a number of of its young people are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is dead, without directly referencing the fire, honoring a "young athlete who embodied dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is awaited.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the bar.
"A companion told me they escaped after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators stated, "He was known for his kindness and positive demeanor, combined with great responsibility. He would frequently offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her sibling has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the family has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are closely watching the case.
